Barbara Grundeman, a lifelong resident of Michigan, received a Bachelor of Science degree in Design from the University of Michigan, majoring in painting and art education. Upon graduation, she taught art at the University of Michigan Hospital School in Ann Arbor. After marrying her husband, Bob, they moved to Birmingham, MI, where they raised two children. During this time, Barbara never "put down her paint brushes", continuing to enter shows and take post grad classes at Wayne State University and the University of Michigan.

Landscapes and seascapes have always been Barbara's favorite subject matter. Her inspiration comes mainly from the diversely scenic states of Michigan, California and Colorado, where she lives and has family. She is drawn to scenes that include something weathered and aged by the ravages of nature itself. This object becomes the focal point with the natural beauty of the landscape as its backdrop. Her work can be found in numerous corporate and private collections including, but not limited to, Ford Motor Co. Headquarters, Comerica Bank, Dominos World Headquarters and Blue Cross Blue Shield of MI.
